An exceptional Darjeeling Tea from the Margaret's Hope Estate - A superb afternoon tea

Taste

The fragrance and taste of this exquisite Darjeeling tea is a complex bouquet that reaches right out of the cup. Some would describe the taste as nutty; others find it reminds them of black currants, but most often it is described as similar to the taste and fragrance of muscat grapes.

This is an exceptional quality Darjeeling tea, with a fully developed flavour from the 2nd flush harvest. It produces a delicate astringent cup with the distinctive "Muscatel" character. Hints of currant create an almost wine-like taste.

Facts

Named after the daughter of the original Darjeeling Estate, Margaret visited the tea estate in India and fell in love with it. Unfortunately she died at sea whilst returning to England. Her father renamed the Estate Margaret's Hope in her memory.

The bushes at Margaret's Hope are almost entirely the Chinese Jat (genus) accounting for the green-leafed, tippy appearance and the superb fragrance. The tea is grown at high altitudes (up to 7000 feet) and in relatively cool weather therefore the bushes do not grow quickly and production is limited. Our tea is picked during "second flush" (from the end of May to the end of June). This is the the best time of the year for quality, during which no tea in the world compares with a Darjeeling.
