Details

Kenyan coffee is well known for its strong flavour, good aroma and acidity and this Kenyan AB plus Bora estate Coffee delivers in all departments for an amazing price. A full bodied, full tasting coffee, strong and smooth with hints of blackcurrants, caramel and butter, delicious any time of the day.

This AB + Bora estate coffee comes from a number of plantations and was bought at a government  auction. Kenya coffee is grown in the high altitudes of Kenya's highlands and along the Mount Kenya region. The rich volcanic soil, temperate climate and seasonal rains combine to produce coffee that is so well balanced it is almost sublime. Kenyan coffee has a strong, distinctly bold flavor and a high, smooth acidity with a mellow after-taste similar to wine.

Kenya coffee has been grown for over a century now, since 1893 when it was first introduced in Kenya.  The total area under coffee is estimated at 160,000 hectares, about one third of which is the plantation sector and the rests under small holder sector with an estimated 700,000 growers.Kenya AA coffee is  Kenya's premium grade of coffee, is simply a measure of the size, weight and shape of the bean.

Additional Information

Flavour Profiles Caramel, Chocolate, Buttery, Plum & Berries
Roast Profile You need to take care with Kenyan's and we only roast to light/medium or all those lovely sweet and blackcurrent notes just disappear. We also find Kenyan's roast better in traditional drum roasting machines not fluid air bed types as the slight inconsistencies developed on the bean add to the character.(We only roast this in our vintage STA drum roaster not the Sivetz fluid air bed roaster) A lower heat is used and the beans are removed a minute or so after first crack once the colour has turned chestnut brown.
Cupping Notes 1. Acidity - For a Kenyan this has a medium fruity acidity which is lovely and does not overpower. 2. Sweetness - great sweetness. 3. Body - A near full body roasted to this level. 4. Balance - great balance of flavours, and pleasant after-taste, especially for those who like little/medium acidity. 5. Character - A full bodied, full tasting coffee, strong and smooth with hints of blackcurrants, caramel and butter, superb for the price.
Origin Notes This AB + Bora estate coffee comes from a number of plantations and was bought at a government auction. We therefore have little providence information. The coffee was actually delivered to us by our merchant by mistake but we loved it so much we kept it! AA's are supposed to be the best coffees from Kenya (Beans being designated by the size, shape, and density of the beans), but I can't fault this AB coffee!
