Coroico is situated just 1.5 hours away from La Paz (the capital and highest city) and the Altiplano, but it has a completely different climate and vegetation. At an altitude of 1700 metres, in this area of the Northern Yungas, vegetation is abundant, its bio diversity is beautiful and the climate is warm during the day and cold and foggy during the night and early morning. Coroico was a very important coffee region in the 90s but now only a handful of families continue to produce coffee here. Many Families have since moved from coffee production to cultivate other crops, largely coca. Villa Asunsion is a 15 hectare farm in Coroico where coffee is grown on a small separate, 2-3 hectare plot, alongside coca, citrus fruits, papaya, mangos, bananas and stevia. None of the farming at Villa Asunsion is performed with the use of fertilisers or chemicals. Coffee at Villa Asunsion is grown up to 1900 masl in native shade. Varieties are Caturra and Typica, with cherries ripening both red and yellow in colour. Once harvested, coffee is washed, soaked for 18 hours before being dried on raised beds.

    Taste

This beautiful, fully washed, sun-dried coffee brings out elegant aromas of honey, caramel and walnut with hints of rose. When tasting, on first sip we found this to be a sweet, mild coffee with moderate complexities followed by a mellow milk chocolate after taste. A genuinely luxurious coffee to be drunk throughout the day like an afternoon tea.

    Facts

The Santa Leticia Estate has been run by the Valdivieso family for generations high in the Apaneca-llamatepec mountains in the North West of El Salvador. It was the current owner, Ricardo Valdivieso's great grandfather, who purchased the farm in 1870 and named it after his wife, Leticia. A lot of love and knowledge goes into this coffee.

Grown at a height of 1200-1750 metres above sea level, the farm is also an archaeological site, complete with Mayan artefacts.

This coffee is just fantastic, smooth and clean with a velvety mouth feel of chocolate and soft, sweet citrus notes.

    Facts

Panama Barú Indian High Estate coffees are grown in the Boquete region of Western Panama. Barú Indian High Estate is one of several coffee farms located around the slopes of Volcan Barú near the Costa Rican border.

The Anselmito Estate was purchased by the Perez Balladares family around 1992-1993 from original property owners, the Watson family. It is located in the Horqueta region and offers Typica and Catuai varietals. Most of the trees were originally planted by the first owners. The estate has its own wellspring that runs throughout the area and the location offers breathtaking views of the Barú Volcano and the main square of the city of Boquete. It is also home to numerous wildlife species due to the large amount of shade given by the trees.

    Taste

This is a delightfully smooth, full-bodied and complex coffee, with a delicious floral aroma, citrusy orange snap and delicate chocolate flavours. It is superb both black or with milk.

    Facts

Shade-grown in the Peruvian Andes at an altitude of 1600-1800 metres amongst the most beautiful flora and fauna of the Tambopata Valley, this coffee is traditionally farmed and produced without the use of pesticides or chemicals. The coffee beans are first fed and washed by pure spring waters and then harvested by hand by local indigenous Quechuan and Aymara speaking families who have worked the area for generations in harmony with the land. The farmers enjoy the benefits of working as a cooperative which provides much-needed annual funds and training on how to organically enhance farming conditions as well as providing a stable market for their coffee and a guarantee that a fair price will always be achieved.

This coffee has won several awards: in 2013 it came second out of 51 entries in the Rainforest Alliance's Cupping for Quality, held at the Speciality Coffee Association of America (SCAA) Lab in Long Beach California. In 2012 it was one of the best coffees of the year in the Roasters Guild Competition. It won first place in the National CafA expo awards in Lima and was the coffee used by the third place winner in the UK barista final.
