This stunning, naturally-processed coffee scored an impressive 87.75 during cupping, making it one of our highest scoring coffees. La Candelilla blossoms with a bouquet of wild floral honey, caramel and grapefruit, smoothly moving to candied lemon and jasmine.
From the first sip of this incredible cup the palate is met with a burst of ripe apricot and honey-vanilla filling out to a beautifully balanced body, full of smooth, refined, Sauvignon Blanc-like acidity.
This unique micro-lot of coffee comes from La Candelilla Farm, an amazing single estate owned by the Sanchez family. They have worked the land for five generations but in 2000 the family pooled their resources to build the farm and micro-mill. It was an unprecedented move in Costa Rica and it inspired many other small producers to set up their own micro-lots. Because of this, the variety of coffee and knowledge of coffee amongst those that work the land has increased ten-fold.
The Estate produces a wide variety of coffee and the family's forward thinking approach to processing and varietal planting has earned them the reputation of one of the best coffee producers in Costa Rica. The farm only produced five sacks of this particular coffee from a tiny section of the estate and we have been lucky to acquire two of them, so when we say for a limited time only, we really do mean it.
