Taste

“Mocha” coffee from the Yemen and Ethiopia is fruity, with a lively acidity that many find overpowering whilst Java is full-bodied, smooth with dark Cocoa notes. In the 17th Century Europeans found that a roughly equal blend of the two delivered a coffee that was smooth-drinking but with a brightness and complexity of taste. Our take on this timeless Dutch classic has Java Ijen, Kenya Bora and Ethiopian Djimmah as its main components. This Mocha Java is a superb full-bodied coffee, rich and earthy yet with a zesty acidity - a perfect timeless blend.

Flavour Profiles Buttery, Chocolate, Citrus & Lemon, Smokey
Roast Profile This blend only works if each single origin is roasting separately to it's own profile. The Ethiopian's need to be roasted light/medium so as to preserve the fantastic zesty notes and creamy mouth-feel. The Java needs to be roasted medium/dark so as to develop those velvety and smooth dark cocoa, smoke and spice attributes, but not too dark as to destroy the sweetness. Both beans need care as the Java can 'run away' quickly at the end if not monitored and the Ethiopians can scorch.
Cupping Notes 1. Acidity - Mild & Zesty that develops slowly on the palate. 2. Sweetness - Good sweetness that works really well with the zest. 3. Body - Smooth & creamy cradles the mouth. 4. Balance - great balance of flavours, moves nicely from sweet, to mild acidity to dark cocoa & cream a wonderfully pleasant after-taste. 5. Character - Velvety, deep & intense. As an espresso sweet & zesty with dark cocoa notes & a delicious after-taste that lingers nicely. In the cafetiere a little less zest and more cream, with dark smoky chocolate. This blend works superbly with milk where an intense buttery creamy loveliness works hand in hand with the coffee flavours to delivery an addictive cup.
Origin Notes The origins of this blend are believed to have begun over 400 years ago, “Mocha” coffee from the Yemen (& Ethiopia) is fruity, with a lively acidity that many find overpowering whilst Java is full-bodied, smooth with dark Cocoa notes. In the 17th Century Europeans found that a roughly equal blend of the two delivered a coffee that was smooth-drinking but with a brightness and complexity of taste - a perfect timeless blend! The coffees used in this blend are of superb quality and sold as single origin's in there own right, this blend however shows why we blend where two fine coffees can be combined to deliver flavour profiles that are unique in one place but that really work well together.

Deeply delicious

Dark, smoky yet not heavy - a great blend which makes a superb cup of coffee. Other dark roasts can be quite bitter but this is lovely!

Just finished a bag of this and really enjoyed it. Didn't drink it much as an espresso but made great cappuccinos with its chocolate hints. Definitely will buy again.
