Fawkes Blend

April 2014 saw YCE fly the coop and head south for The London Coffee Festival. The festival is a celebration of the fantastic and bustling coffee scene in the UK. With us we took a new fusion of coffee cyder and three blends NEW to YCE.

The second of three blends we'll feature in our archive was the 'Fawkes Blend', aptly named after - you guessed it - Guy Fawkes. Another name deep rooted in York.

This is one of the three new blends that may not suit all tastes (but that makes it a little more exciting doesn't it?). Having 15% content of a high quality organic Robusta makes it a little controversial, and may create mixed feelings, just as Fawkes did. It's no gunpowder plot but it is certainly not a mainstream coffee, we believe it makes a superb Espresso, Americano or latte.

THE FAWKES COFFEE BLEND IS MADE FROM THREE FANTASTIC COFFEES:

Rwandan Karengera Kirimbi The Karengera washing station is in the Nyamasheke district of Western Rwanda and services 2600 farmers who produce coffee at altitudes of 1,651 metres above sea level. A Red Bourbon varietal, washed and sun dried on raised African beds the washing station is RFA certified& was funded by K Z Noir (Karengera was purchased out of bankruptcy by KZ Noir a company with a strong ethical focus that has been reinvesting in farmer training and providing consistently high prices to farmers).

Tanzania Robusta Bukoba Kagera Fairtrade Orgainc This coffee is wild indigenous and delicious. The Kagera region of north-west Tanzania is a remote and isolated location between the Rwanda mountains and Lake Victoria where Livingstone and other 19th century explorers searched for the source of the Nile.

Flavour Profile:

If you are looking for berry fruitiness and deep intense chocolate with a little hardwood smoke then look no further than the intense hit of the Fawkes blend.
